Preparing a Sample

Sample Requirements

Acceptable specimen types for use with our Analyzer include only nasopharyngeal swabs (NPS) (Rayon, Polyester, or Nylon-flocked) in 3 mL of viral transport media (VTM). After sample collection with swab, immediately break off swab tip into transport solution. Transport media must be in 3mL volume for expected performance.

  • When collecting your sample, follow standard protocols:
  • Insert a swab into nostril parallel to the palate. Swab should reach depth equal to distance from nostrils to the outer opening of the ear.
  • Leave swab in place for several seconds to absorb secretions.
  • Slowly remove swab while rotating it

*14μL of sample (nasopharyngeal swab in transport solution) will be used for 1 test.

Samples should be processed and tested with the Fluxergy Test Kit immediately after sample collection. Performance is not guaranteed if samples are not tested immediately. Extended heat and temperature fluctuations will degrade sample and affect detection of nucleic acid.

Recommended Input Materials for Quality Control

Because the Fluxergy CoVID-19 Sample-to-Answer RT-PCR Test is a direct PCR, the dilution of sample into UTM will impact the amount of inhibition in the sample. If there is too much inhibition, amplification will not occur. Therefore, be sure to use one of the Fluxergy-validated 3mL UTM with glass beads as the diluent for your swab. It is not recommended to use other UTMs as additives may affect the test. See the table below for suggested quality controls and clinical samples.
